Charity Doubles
It was a double celebration for David Randall on Saturday - not only did his team win the Charity Doubles Tournament with a fantastic score of 5 wins and no losses, but David also celebrated his birthday on the same day!

David, and son Andrew, proved a formidable pairing and the last game of the day truly was a decider since they were up against Jeff and Trish - the only other team to go into their final game undefeated. But the Birthday Boy won in the end and donated the prize fund of £99 to a sponsored bike ride in aid of the Brighton Argus Charity Appeal.

Congratulations, Davd and Andrew, and good luck, John, with the cycle from Brighton to Paris!

So who won then?

It’s the end of an exciting doubles match between Tony & Janice and David and Ann.
The score couldn’t be closer, at 12 (D&A) – 11 (T&J). Below is a picture showing the finishing positions of the four boules closest to the jack. Using the clues below can you work out:
  1. the owner of each boule
  2. the size of each boule
  3. the weight of each boule
  4. which team won the game
Players: Tony, Ann, David, Janice
Boule weights: 690g, 700g, 720g, 740g
Sizes: 71cm, 72cm, 73cm, 74cm

Clues:
  • Janice’s boule is to the right of the jack but the 720g boule lies fourth.
  • The lightest boule is also, bizarrely, the largest and did not end up second.
  • Tony’s boule finished closer than the 700g boule
  • Ann’s heavy-weight 740g is perfect for pointing.
  • The 73cm boule ended up third-furthest from the jack.
  • David does not play with a 71cm boule.
  • The heaviest boule ended immediately clockwise to the 72cm boule.
